Curriculum and Diplomas

BMIS is an IB World School offering the International Baccalaureate® (IB) Primary Years (PYP), IB Middle Years (MYP), and IB Diploma (DP) Programmes.

BMIS received international accreditation by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) in 2002 and by the Council of International Schools (CIS) in 2004.  In October 2019, BMIS was successful in being re-accredited with both of these agencies.

Additionally, BMIS is a member of the Association of International Schools in Africa (AISA) and also a Program Member of the Microsoft IT Academy.

To achieve this accreditation, CIS/NEASC schools must infuse international and intercultural perspectives into their programmes so that students can move forward with the attitudes and understanding that will provide them with a solid base wherever their studies or work may take them.

BMIS is one of only a handful of fully accredited schools in southern Africa. Recognition for fully accredited CIS/NEASC schools is very different to affiliate members since the accreditation process verifies that the school meets exacting international standards in the following areas:

•Philosophy and Objectives
•Curriculum
•Governance and Management
•Staff
•Student Support Services
•Resources
•Student and Community Life

The award of CIS & NEASC Accreditation demonstrates:

• The school is devoted to its mission. It cares enough about what it does to seek validation from a recognized accreditation authority.
• The school knows itself. It has thought deeply about the services it offers to students, family, and community.
• The school is student-orientated. Its philosophy of education is suitable for the students on roll and encompasses the development of the whole individual.
• The school accepts objective assessment. It is prepared to open its doors periodically to regular evaluation by the school community and by outside experienced evaluators.
• The school is constantly seeking to improve its performance in curricular and other areas.
• The school plans for the future. As part of the ongoing nature of the evaluation process, accredited schools are continually planning future developments.
