Model United Nations (Dubai & Kenya)

Model United Nations (MUN) allows students from Years 10-13 to act as UN delegates, create real-life resolutions (addressing real-life problems in the world) and debate them at the annual East Africa Model United Nations (EAMUN) conference in one of the three official UN offices in the world. A select group of students are given the opportunity to go on this journey to Kenya to debate these resolutions. It allows students to express their knowledge through debate. MUN also encourages students to consider plausible solutions to critical global issues. It brings together different schools to discuss and concur, and develops leaders and future diplomats.

This year, MYP students also travelled to Dubai to participate in a conference themed: “International Response to Global Conflict”. The students addressed challenging questions at Dubai International Academy Model United Nations (DIAMUN), managed to have time for some fun activities and made lasting friends in the process.

From the students (By Umar Rauf – Year 10):

“MUN was incredibly fun this year because all of the students were motivated to work together, making this the best year for BMIS. Our student, Krisha Thakor, won best speaker for the Global Health Council while the group representing Thailand, won the Best Resolution in the Political Committee. Our students ended up having one of the best experiences of their MYP/DP years.”
