Years 12 and 13

BMIS is the only school in Malawi to offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma. This is a rigorous, academic, two-year pre-university programme designed to facilitate the mobility of students and to promote international understanding. Over 2,000 schools worldwide offer the Diploma and it is recognised in 75 countries.

A successful IB student will apply to universities and colleges round the world with advantages over students who have taken less intensive programmes. Below is an introductory video about the IB Diploma at BMIS:

Diploma students follow the DP Core and six subject groups.

Made up of three required components the Diploma core broadens students’ educational experience and challenges them to apply their knowledge and skills.

Creativity, action, service: students complete a project related to all three elements

The extended essay: a 4,000-word independent piece of academic research

Theory of knowledge: students reflect on the nature of knowledge
